Roger Smith Distillery

A premium vodka handcrafted in the historic village of Selborne

The new spirit of vodka

  • We are dedicated to the artistry of vodka.

  • Each batch takes at least 33 weeks to produce

  • The soil and climate of Selborne is the source of our excellence.

A spirit born on ancient soil

Borne33 was established to provide a premium seed-to-bottle vodka for consumers that value transparency, authenticity and local products. We take simple ingredients and transform them into something extraordinary.

Borne33 is produced by the Roger Smith Distillery on our family farm in Hampshire, at the ancient site of the Selborne Priory. The Priory was established in 1233 for Augustinian monks who made a virtue of sharing which continues today.

The distillery was founded by Ben Roger-Smith in 2025 to give drinkers a deeper connection to their spirits by being fully transparent about sourcing and process. We support local agriculture and produce vodka with the lowest possible environmental impact.

Unlike most distilleries, we ferment and distill our vodka from scratch - taking at least 33 weeks to complete the transformation from seed to spirit.

Modern engineering meets tradition

Our copper column still was designed and built specifically for our distillery. We combine cutting edge technology with traditional distillation methods to achieve a unique product.

Each bottle contains more than 1kg of wheat

Our bespoke rolling mill grinds homegrown winter wheat to the desired grist ahead of mashing.

First distillation after 6 days

Unlike many, we ferment 'on-the-grain' to deliver a premium product. The first distillation - the stripping run - includes the whole mash!

The spirit run

Once the stripping run is complete we undertake spirit runs through all 3 columns and carefully controlled temperatures.

The cuts

Borne33 takes only the prized hearts fraction. This is then diluted with pure water, filtered and bottled - all on the farm.

Circular operation

We collect our cooling water to use for the next fermentation and feed the mash by product to our Wagyu cattle. Vodka and steak - delicious!

Vodka is the purest of spirits.

We ignite a passion for craftsmanship

We are dedicated to creating a vodka experience that cannot be found in mass-produced spirits. We are driven by the desire to share our passion for excellence and ignite a new generation of vodka enthusiasts.

From seed to vodka in

33 weeks

We believe in the power of knowing exactly where your drink comes from. We combine modern distillation technology with inputs sourced locally ensuring the freshest and most authentic vodka available (at least we think so!). Each batch takes at least 33 weeks to complete the transformation from seed to spirit.

Process

A Celebration of Provenance

The wheat is grown in fields that have been farmed for over 1,000 years. The same soil that was farmed by the monks and generations in between. The nutrient rich environment and unique climate provide optimal growing conditions. Ingredient quality and origin is a central tenet of Borne33 and something we will never compromise.

Crafting

The Awakening of the Spirit

Our processes, our equipment and most importantly our inputs are totally unique to us. No other distillery is able to produce a spirit like Borne33. When you drink Borne33 you are experiencing the coming together of elements that cannot be found anywhere else. We are proud of our heritage, we embrace technology and invest in the future. This is why we believe Borne33 is the new spirit of vodka.

Not just a bottle

The Sealing of the Magic

Each bottle is a sealed vessel of power. When consumed, the vodka carries with it the whispers of the Priory, the sacredness of the land, and the eternal dance between nature and spirit.

The pike coin design on our bottle is taken from a tile dating back to 1240 – it refers to a miracle performed by the Bishop of Chichester (1197-1253) who blessed a fish pond on the farm and immediately a three-foot pike was netted!

“Seeing nature is being present at the creation”

Gilbert White (1720-1793) Pioneering naturalist, author and Selborne resident.

Sustainability is not merely a practice but a task - we recognise that, just like our vodka, true transformation takes time. By cultivating the land with care, restoring what has been lost, and protecting what remains, we work towards a future where the land is preserved for future generations. Borne33 takes positive action in a number of ways:

Profits from the distillery are reinvested back into the local community through the Selborne Landscape Partnership - a cluster of 27 farmers and conservationists restoring nature across the local countryside

Our bottles are made from 100% post consumer recycled ("PCR") glass. Unlike regular glass, PCR does not extract raw materials and has up to 65% less environmental impact

All production processes are carried out on site minimising transportation miles

The fermentation byproduct is fed to our Wagyu cattle, minimising waste and eliminating our need to purchase outside feed
